Many countries have already planned to ban the sale of fuel-powered vehicles. So, which countries currently offer zero tariffs on imported new energy vehicles?
Malaysia: Pure Electric Vehicles (BEVs) generally have zero tariff.
Philippines: Pure Electric Vehicles (BEVs) have zero tariff.
Thailand: Both Pure Electric and Hybrid Vehicles have a 0% tariff.
Armenia: Exempts Electric Vehicles (EVs) from import VAT and customs duties. This tax exemption policy has been extended to January 1, 2026.
Singapore: Implements a 0% tariff policy on all types of vehicles, regardless of powertrain.
Myanmar: Starting from March 31, 2025, Myanmar will reduce import duties on electric vehicles and their components to zero. This policy will last for one year, until March 31, 2026.
Egypt: Compared to high tariffs on importing fuel-powered vehicles, Egypt implements a zero-tariff policy on electric vehicle imports.
Ghana: Starting from 2024, exempts import duties for:
EVs used in public transportation.
Semi-Knocked Down (SKD) and Completely Knocked Down (CKD) EVs imported by registered EV assembly companies.
This exemption lasts for 8 years.
Additionally, countries like Cape Verde, Ethiopia, Mauritius, Rwanda, Seychelles, Togo, Tunisia, Zambia have also reduced or eliminated import duties and taxes on electric vehicles.Argentina: Announced on March 5, 2025, the elimination of import tariffs for electric and hybrid vehicles. This policy will last for five years, allowing the duty-free import of up to 50,000 vehicles per year, with a maximum individual vehicle value not exceeding USD 16,000 (FOB).
Belarus: The Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission decided to extend the preferential duty-free import of electric vehicles to Belarus until December 31, 2025. The duty exemption only applies to citizens permanently residing in Belarus and does not allow the transfer of rights related to the EV to individuals possessing citizenship and/or permanent residence rights of the Russian Federation.
Kazakhstan: When individuals import EVs for personal use, they can import 1 electric vehicle per year under a passenger customs declaration, exempt from customs duties and taxes, without paying any fees. This rule only applies to Kazakhstani citizens with permanent residency in Kazakhstan.
Kyrgyzstan: The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) has set a preferential duty-free import quota for Kyrgyzstan of 10,000 electric vehicles for both 2024 and 2025.
